"Adaptogenic mushrooms are in a category of their own. To be considered adaptogenic, they must meet three criteria: they must be non-toxic, have non-specific benefits, and produce normalizing effects on the body."
Juraj Kocar

Ancient Oriental remedies and modern science converge in the exciting world of adaptogenic mushrooms. My guest on today’s show, Juraj Kocar, brings this time-proven healing tradition to the Western world as CEO of Wyse Earth, offering honey-infused adaptogenic mushrooms for increased stress resilience and enhanced immunity and digestion. Previously the CEO of Somavedic Technologies, Juraj has dedicated his career to innovative wellness solutions that create profound health impacts.

In our conversation, we explore what makes mushrooms truly "adaptogenic," including their three key properties: non-toxicity, non-specific effects, and normalizing action on the body. Juraj explains why honey serves as the perfect delivery system, enhancing bioavailability while acting as a natural preservative that has remained viable for thousands of years. We take a look at Wyse Earth's specialized product line, including their Longevity blend, Heartflow for cardiovascular health (obviously), and Detox for parasitic cleansing—plus upcoming formulations targeting energy and weight management.

This episode shines a light on a natural healing approach with thousands of years of history behind it. It’s cutting-edge science for health-conscious individuals like you and me, so without any further ado, on with the show!

Juraj, it’s so great to have you on the show.

Thank you for having me, Stephan.

Let’s talk about Wyse Earth and how you came into this company, because it’s a cool story. So how did this come about? How did the company get founded, and how did you become the CEO?

Yeah, so there were two things. One was synchronicity with adaptogenic mushrooms, and the second, which was really important, was the story behind the brand and why it came to be. Because there are two parts: the Czech company and the US branch, which I’m running. So getting back to the synchronicity, I was the CEO of Somavedic technologies for the last five years. I loved being in health and wellness for the last five years.

I’ve been in the space since 2012, and in the last year, I was thinking about doing something more profound that would impact people on a deeper level. I started to study adaptogenic mushrooms because I was a fan of Four Sigmatic and then MUD\WTR, and I was using their products. The more I was learning about the adaptogenic mushrooms, the more I was fascinated by their universal properties and health benefits.

I knew that I wanted to go this road, that I wanted to do something with adaptogenic mushrooms. I’d build a small project around them, like an MVP. Shortly after that, Daniel approached me and said that he would like to meet and show me a product that he’s been working on, or he has been working on it for almost two years in the Czech Republic. So, we’ve met. He put this jar on the table and said, “This is honey infused with adaptogenic mushrooms.”

And for me, it was super fascinating because of this synchronicity that I was super deep in the adaptogenic mushrooms, and I wanted to go this road. All of a sudden, Daniel came here and showed me a product that he was already selling: honey infused with adaptogenic mushrooms. So the second thing was the story of how he found the company and the reason behind it. There’s a sad story, unfortunately, behind it, but it is super inspirational at the same time.

He lost his sister because of cancer. They were really, really close, so it greatly affected his life and everything. And after some time, he met a guy who was able to heal himself from stage four cancer just through adaptogenic mushroom extracts that he was preparing himself. He was going out into the woods, picking the mushrooms, and then doing the extract at home. When Daniel met him, he was still grieving from his sister’s loss.

The more I learned about the adaptogenic mushrooms, the more I was fascinated by their universal properties and health benefits.

All of a sudden, there’s this guy who actually made it that healed himself, because the doctors didn’t give him a chance, they basically said, “There’s nothing we can do, only chemotherapy,” and that’s something that he didn’t want to do. They started talking, and they made this product, and it worked really well. After about a year and a half, he had more than 20,000 customers and amazing healing stories.

But after he mentioned what happened to him and why he found the company, as we were sitting there, he asked me if I would like to help him get the product to the US market. It was super in alignment with what I love to do. This was definitely a no-brainer for me to start this company,

So it’s based in the US, but the original company is in the Czech Republic.

Yes.

Tell us how that works between those two companies.

So there’s the Czech company, which produces the adaptogenic honey. We have a local beekeeper, local meaning here in the Czech Republic, and he has pristine and clear honey. He’s not feeding the bees anything. They just fly around freely in the fields and woods. We source the adaptogenic mushrooms from China, from a factory that has a long history, since 1850, and they are supplying even pharmaceutical companies in Japan and Canada.

We mix everything. The products are made here in the Czech Republic and then exported to the Wyse Earth. It’s a US-based company with a US warehouse. So we import it and distribute it in the US and worldwide.

Got it. Why suspend the adaptogenic mushrooms in honey? Why is that more beneficial than just taking the mushrooms and, let’s say, tea or adding them to your smoothie?

Honey is the best natural conservant. For example, researchers found more than 3,000-year-old honey in Egypt, and when they melted it and tasted it, it still had an amazing taste.

The reason behind it is that it not only improves the taste, which is quite an important thing, especially for the US audience, but also for me personally. However, the more important reason is that honey improves the delivery of nutrients from the adaptogenic mushroom, which makes it more bioavailable. Studies show that the sugar from the honey is a great carrier of these nutrients, so the body can absorb and get more and more out of it. That’s the main reason.

Got it. How did Daniel come across honey as the right substrate to put the mushrooms into?

This was actually the idea of the guy that he met, who was able to heal himself from stage four cancer. He was preparing that just for himself and had trouble making a commercial product. That’s where he partnered with Daniel, and with his help, they were able to make a product out of it.

But his partner started to put it into honey because he was reading about how to preserve the extracts in old literature. Honey is the best natural conservant out there. For example, they found more than 3,000-year-old honey in Egypt, and when they melted and tasted it, it still had an amazing taste.

I don’t know if I would want to try 3000-year-old honey. I would pass on that.

I think I would try it. But it shows you that if the honey is not contaminated with anything, it can last super long.

Amazing. Let’s go through the different kinds of mushrooms. What is an adaptogenic mushroom versus a regular mushroom that you might add to your salad? What are the different kinds of adaptogenic mushrooms? Because there’s reishi and Turkey tail. There are lots. What are the differences, and how do you pick one or the other to use?

Contrary to other drugs or supplements, adaptogenic mushrooms are considered one of the safest ingredients or foods and one of the most beneficial and complex.

Adaptogenic mushrooms are a special subcategory of mushrooms that they have to have three specific properties. They have to be nontoxic, nonspecific, and have normalizing effects on the body. Nontoxic means that you cannot overdose with them. There’s basically no ceiling. Contrary to other drugs or supplements, they are considered one of the safest ingredients or foods and one of the most beneficial and complex.

Nonspecific means that, for example, you have a drug for headache, stomach ache, knee pain, cholesterol, or blood pressure, that’s a drug for a specific thing. Adaptogenic mushrooms have nonspecific effects. That means they work on a pretty wide spectrum of health problems in the body, because they are the biggest fighters of inflammation, and chronic inflammation causes many health problems.

So, almost everywhere, there’s a problem in the body, and the adaptogens help to get the body back into homeostasis. That means that it’s nonspecific. The third one, normalizing effects, means that they can affect your, for example, nervous or immune systems, bidirectionally. What does it mean? Taking CaCO in the morning will boost your energy, mental clarity, and other things. If you take it in the evening, it will calm you down.

It’s the same thing, but it has a different effect on your nervous system. This is how the adaptogenic mushrooms work: they have this bidirectional effect, so they can increase immunity response or even decrease if necessary. These three specifications are really unique, and that’s what makes the adaptogenic mushrooms so special. Of course, they have been known in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 3000 years.

Adaptogenic mushrooms have more than twelve times more antioxidants than a blueberry.

In Western medicine, they got there thanks to Nikolay Lazarev, a Soviet scientist. They told him, as it usually is, “We need our soldiers to perform better and to increase their stamina without any side effects and with long-lasting effects.” He got into this journey of discovering natural supplements that could help that, and he was the first in 1957 to coin the term ‘adaptogen’ or ‘adaptogenic.’ So thanks to him, we have been using the exact word that defines this type of mushroom until now.

What goes into your guys’ honey? Which mushrooms? Because there are a lot of them. There’s reishi, and different kinds of reishi. There’s Turkey tail. There’s lion’s mane. There’s cordyceps. There’s a whole bunch. Which ones go into your honey, and which ones do you not put, and why?

We currently have three products. There are two more coming, but the three main ones we have now are the Longevity, Detox, and Heartflow. As mentioned, we are sourcing the mushrooms from China, where 90% of the adaptogenic mushroom production comes from. On top of that, we are working with traditional Chinese medicine masters, and their task was to put together a blend that would help people with different health problems.

We are sourcing the mushrooms from China, where 90% of the adaptogenic mushroom production comes from.

Our Longevity blend is specifically designed to help oncological patients. Of course, this doesn’t mean it’s only for the; anyone can take it as a prevention. I love the blend. Again, we discussed that it’s super safe. The ingredients inside are the reishi, chaga, cordyceps, shiitake, and maitake, determined to help these serious health problems,  because cancer, cysts, blood pressure, and cholesterol are the direct effects of chronic inflammation. When you have something that helps with chronic inflammation, it helps the body regenerate and heal itself. That’s the Longevity blend.

Then we have the Heartflow, which is designed for cardiovascular problems like blood pressure and cholesterol, and it improves the VO2, the circulation, and all of that. One of the main ingredients is from a berry, plus another seven adaptogenic mushrooms. Then we have the Detox, which is a smaller dosage. The Detox has sweet wormwood, turmeric, and black pepper, and it is specifically designed to be antiparasitic, have antiviral properties, and clean your digestive tract and stomach.

The go-to combination would be the Longevity and Detox, or just the Longevity. It’s the most universal product we have, and anyone can use. When I mentioned the oncological patients, for example, in South Korea and Japan, doctors prescribe adaptogenic mushrooms to more than 70% of patients, along with their chemotherapy.

There are even studies showing that it’s a great combination. It helps to mitigate the adverse effects of the chemotherapy. But again, this is in Asia. Unfortunately, current doctors in the Western world don’t consider it beneficial or helpful.

Honey isn’t just for flavor—it actually enhances bioavailability. The natural sugars in honey act as carriers for the mushroom nutrients, helping your body absorb more. Share on X

Chinese medicine generally is not accepted in the Western medical industrial complex. Specifically, adaptogenic mushrooms are not seen as a valid therapy for taking care of people with cancer or various kinds of diseases by Western doctors.

It works the other way around. In China, for example, you can choose to go to traditional Chinese medicine, Western medicine, or a combination. There’s an advantage. But it doesn’t work this way in Europe or the US.

So, if someone takes the Detox product, how long will they take it? Is this an ongoing thing you take forever? Or are you on a particular program for it? If you take, let’s say, a particular supplement, like an antiparasitic, there’s Para 1 † and Para 2 † from CellCore Biosciences, and you start at a specific time. I think it’s actually timed with the full moon, when you start taking the antiparasitic herbs.

And then it’s like, say, a week on, a week off. I don’t remember exactly, but there’s a protocol to it, and you repeat it if you still have symptoms X number of weeks or months later. You don’t take Para 1 and Para 2 ongoing as part of your natural supplementation for the rest of your life. What’s the suggested protocol for your Detox product?

Adaptogenic mushrooms are among the most potent fighters of inflammation in the body, and inflammation is a significant contributor to numerous health problems.

I’ll briefly mention that, for example, it’s the Longevity and Heartflow. They are like a two-pound jar and should last three months. You take one spoonful a day. With the Detox, it’s a much smaller jar that lasts for one month, and you also take one spoonful a day, but it is enough to have it two or three times a year. You take it every day for a month, then leave it out for six or four months.

If you still feel like you want to do a next round, then you’re free to do that. That’s with the Detox. You can take the other blend, the Longevity and Heartflow, every day. Usually, the traditional Chinese medicine masters, doctors, or practitioners would suggest that you take it five times a week, say, Monday to Friday, then you have a weekend off, and then you start again. This is also the option, but then again, you can take it every day the whole year, especially if you live in a stressful environment in terms of the actual environment, or your life situation, or your job. If you are in it every day, it’s okay to take it every day.

I want to mention a funny story that happened to us when a lady called us to say that she wanted to take her honey, the two-pound jar, the big one, and she realized that it’s empty. She was like, “Who’s done this?” She found out that her two sons, eight and nine, ate the whole jar during a movie. So, she was quite scared because it’s medicinal honey. There is a high concentration of the adaptogenic mushrooms.

The Power blend is more about energy and vitality for high-performing athletes, managers, or students because the two main ingredients are cordyceps and Asian ginseng.

She‘s like, “Will they be okay?” We told her they should be fine. This is time-proven by science that it is safe. Nothing happened, and they really ate, I think, like two hours the whole three months’ supply.

It’s a pound each.

Yeah, they were just pumped or bust from the honey. But that was basically it. One spoon a day is enough.

What do you personally take? Which blends, how much, and when?

We haven’t discussed this one until recently. My favorite was longevity and detox. I had them every day. I still have Detox almost every day, but we have a new blend. It’s called Power. These three that we were discussing are more medicinal, health-focused, even the power is, but in a different way. Power is more about energy and vitality for high-performing athletes, managers, or students because the two main ingredients are cordyceps and Asian ginseng

It’s also good for energy, stamina, and even libido. I like the taste of the Power, so I take that every day, and soon we will also release a blend called Slim, designed to help improve the burning of the fat, which we have in trial already, and we see some great results. We will introduce it in the US soon as well.

So, you take the Power blend and you take the Detox.

Yes, but I stopped the detox because just the jar was empty, that’s why. But I love the Power and the Longevity.

We talked a couple of months ago prior to this recording, and at that time, you were taking Detox and Longevity blend. One was in the morning and one was in the afternoon. I forget which one was which, but you spread it out through the day instead of taking both at the same time. I guess you just finish the jar of the detox, and then you’ll do another round in maybe six months.

What makes adaptogenic mushrooms special is their ability to address a wide range of health issues by combating inflammation and supporting the body's return to homeostasis. Share on X

Yes, exactly. You can definitely design it in a way that you have one in the morning and one in the afternoon or evening. For example, I like the taste of the Detox so much that I just put it on the spoon and I’ll just eat it. There’s something really great about the taste of the Detox blend. And the Longevity or the Power I put into coffee.

I really like the taste of the Longevity blend. I take it every day. I don’t put it onto something to help. I love the taste, so I just take a spoonful of the honey with a wooden spoon.

It’s important to use a wooden spoon for honey.

Can you explain why you don’t use metal spoons with honey?

Because it can influence the nutrients of the honey, it’s a nuanced thing. If you don’t have any other spoon, just go ahead with a metal spoon, but a wooden spoon is preferred to keep the honey’s nutrients intact.

We didn’t go into the details of these different mushrooms. Do you want to give just a few examples of what some adaptogenic mushrooms are known for, in terms of benefits or things they are used for? You mentioned chaga, reishi, Turkey tail, cordyceps, and lion’s mane.

One main thing that all the adaptogenic mushrooms have in common is that they are super strong inflammation fighters.

As I mentioned, one main thing that all the adaptogenic mushrooms have in common is that they are super strong inflammation fighters. They have more than twelve times more antioxidants than a blueberry, which is known for high antioxidant levels. Lion’s mane, for example, has great results in terms of brain power and cognition, and studies show how it affects Alzheimer’s patients.

They were testing it with Alzheimer patients, and they’ve seen that when they take it every day, their cognition and everything improves. The way they were sure that it was because of or thanks to the lion’s mane was that when they stopped giving them lion’s mane, after some time, they declined back to the baseline. So, the improvement was directly correlated with lion’s mane. That’s great for energy, focus, and mental power.

Then we have to mention the queen of adaptogenic mushrooms, also called the longevity mushroom. It’s reishi. In China, the Emperor forbade collecting and eating anything other than the reishi. Everyone who found the reishi had to give it to him.

That’s not very nice.

Yeah, it’s not, but science has confirmed that it is super powerful. Then we have chaga, which in some countries, for example, in Finland, is used instead of coffee because it is really dark, like black. During the world wars, when there was no coffee, they used it instead of coffee. It also has significant health benefits.

Reishi is the queen of adaptogenic mushrooms, also called the longevity mushroom.

So if someone were to use ChatGPT and the app Consensus, which is linked to the PubMed library, and enter the health benefits of adaptogenic mushrooms, they would get how they improve blood pressure, cholesterol, and anticancer properties. These are really interesting and fascinating foods, or we can call them superfoods, with a really wide spectrum of benefits.

I didn’t know about the Consensus app. How do you use that with ChatGPT?

You have to be on the computer. I think it also works in the app. How I started using it is I logged in, and then you can search for gpts, and when you find consensus, it’s basically taking all of the data from PubMed, which is pretty great when asking how many studies are on this, on that, or what kind of supplements, or anything. It’s really, really useful.

Oh, that’s cool. I found a link to ChatGPT with the Consensus app. Consensus.app is the website for consensus, and chatgpt.com has a Consensus app from Consensus. That’s super cool.

The Consensus website works independently from ChatGPT. But I find it—I don’t want to say working better, but the output, the formatting, and everything—for me, better when I use it inside of ChatGPT.

Adaptogens provide a powerful, natural alternative that has been studied and used for thousands of years.

Cool. What are some amazing case examples you can share when people have been taking your blends? I know you shared the origin story, the person with stage four cancer who got better, and I don’t know which cancer specifically he had, but I’m sure you’ve got some great case examples from customers. Do you want to share some?

We have one interesting story from a guy that his whole life, he’s doing autopsies, so he knows the body in and out. They found five cysts on various spots on his body, one on the pancreas. He knew that it was basically almost impossible to perform surgery on it. After a couple of months, he called us, super excited, and said, “Hey guys, I have these two documents from doctors; one is from January, and the other is from March.”

The one from January shows the five cysts, and the one paper from doctors from March shows just one cyst, so the four disappeared, and the one is just a fraction of what it used to be. Because he knew the body, he said this was almost like a miracle because he was not doing anything else with his lifestyle. He didn’t change his lifestyle. He just added this honey, so it’s a super fascinating example.

We have also had people send us photos and screenshots of how their lung cancer disappeared, or the tumor on the digestive tract. They said that the doctor described it in a way that the tumor is shrinking, drying out, and dismantling, or something like that. The stories are fascinating, and this is one of the reasons why I decided to help Daniel and why I wanted to bring this into the US and anywhere in the world.

You can't overdose on adaptogenic mushrooms; they work across a wide range of conditions, especially inflammation, and they balance the body in a bi-directional way. Share on X
